Master of Management – Business Management Track

(10-month, seated; for students with recent undergraduate degrees [any degree] and limited professional work experience)

The Master of Management (M.M.) degree is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to effectively contribute to the management of organizations and enterprises. This business graduate program will prepare students to successfully launch a career that is meaningful to them within the context of developing a personal brand and attention to career management. Significant work experience is built into the program in the form of a full-time internship.

How is the Master of Management different from an M.B.A.?

The Master of Management degree is very similar to an M.B.A. degree. M.M. and M.B.A. programs both offer a comprehensive study of the functional areas of business (management, marketing, finance, economics, accounting) and prepare students for leadership roles in organizations.

Our M.M. is different from a typical M.B.A. program because of its focus on management and career development. We want to help you clarify and advance your career path. The M.M. has outcomes that focus on both quantitative skills and on the soft skills that employers demand (e.g., ability to work with people/on teams, emotional intelligence, habits of the mind).

How long does it take to complete the program? When does it begin?

The program is completed in 10 months as a 5th year. The Business Management track is a cohorted program, meaning that all the students begin at the same time and take the same courses together. Courses for each cohort begin in late July or early August.

Some preparation work is assigned to incoming students to complete in the summer before the program begins.

How is this program different from the online Organizational Leadership track?

The seated Business Management track is designed for students who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and who have limited processional work experience.

*Student athletes are not eligible to enroll in the online program.

What courses will I take?

Courses are designed to give you a foundation in business knowledge and practice with a focus on applicability. Here is a list of MM courses.

What kind of internship can I do?

It is important that students engage in an internship that best fits their career goals. Internships vary greatly. Faculty mentors begin working with students on the first day of the program to help them secure internships. Former students have completed internships in a variety of companies, nonprofit organizations, and institutions. Additionally, students have completed internships all over the world.

Can I participate in athletics while completing the program?

M.M. students can participate in Mars Hill University Division II athletics. A large percentage of M.M. students are participating student-athletes or graduate assistant coaches for MHU teams.

Are there other expenses besides tuition?

Graduate students are responsible for their own textbooks and course materials. Course instructors work very hard to utilize free or low-cost course materials, when possible. Graduate students may be eligible for federal financial aid to help with the cost of tuition and books.

When will I hear something about my application?

Admissions to the M.M. program are made on a rolling basis. However, applications are only considered after all materials are submitted. The application checklist is included near the bottom of the M.M. application form.
