Location: Moore Fine Arts Building, Room 147

Camp Description

Instructor Ray Vierheller will provide students with the basic mechanics of wheel throwing in order to create a unique ceramic planter. Over the course of the week, demonstrations will cover the necessary steps to throwing on the wheel, various form of surface decoration, and glazing. Students will leave with a basic understanding of how to create a finished clay object, and each student will leave with at least one finished planter with a small houseplant inside. While student’s work is firing in the kiln, we will have a “Throwing Olympics” where students will have the opportunity to show off their skills and claim titles such as “fastest thrower,” “tallest pot,” and more.

On Friday afternoon, campers will display their works in a makeshift gallery setting and invite friends and family members to view their creations.

This camp is open to all levels from rising 7–12 grades.

All camp materials are provided as well as light snacks & bottled water. Students are required to bring a bagged lunch.

Optional aftercare $100

Students are welcome to stay until 5:30 p.m. for a supervised session of outdoor free time, games, and more.
