Homecoming 2024 Canceled

Dear Alumni and Friends,

I hope this message finds you safe and well. With a heavy heart, we are cancelling Mars Hill’s Homecoming 2024.

As you likely know, our local community and many of our local students, faculty, and staff were directly impacted by the storm last week. The Town of Mars Hill is safe and functioning well. There are still regional challenges and in light of the seriousness of the damages and loss in neighboring towns we are focusing next week and in the coming days on those affected, helping them get back to campus, clean up, and aiding through volunteers in the recovery efforts in our extended community in Madison County. It is not the proper time for a Homecoming celebration. This is a difficult decision, but we’re confident that it’s the right choice for our County. We believe that while we must begin to get back to class and activities slowly that we should also be very respectful of everyone around us.

We believe that in the coming weeks that it will benefit local families to be able to come to our stadium, get outdoors, and hopefully have some relief from the current pressures of life, with an opportunity to see competitions like football and soccer. Our Lions will play football as scheduled on Saturday, October 12th and 19th. At the game on October 19th, we will be honoring “Heroes on the Field,” our local community members who have responded with unwavering courage and selfless dedication. Our first responders, law enforcement, local leaders, and volunteers stand as pillars of strength in our community. Our Lions are practicing and volunteering in the community. Please cheer them on.

We will miss the opportunity to gather, but we know that in the spirit of unity and resilience, we can come together meaningful ways to help those in need. Many alumni have reached out to ask how they can help. For the most immediate impact, we ask that you make a gift to the Mars Hill Scholarship Fund or to the Chaplain’s Emergency Fund. You may do so by giving online by following the links below, by mail, or by calling the offices of Advancement and Alumni Relations at 828-689-1102.
