64 Grads Honored at December Commencement

A line of graduates processes up the street, led by a woman wearing blue shoes with her regalia and carrying flowers.During Mars Hill University’s commencement ceremony on Friday, December 13, 2024, the university conferred degrees on 62 undergraduates and two master’s graduates who completed their degree requirements in August or December. Earlier in the day, nine “heritage” students–those whose parents or other immediate family members are Mars Hill alumni–were honored during a cording ceremony in which they receive special cords to wear with their caps and gowns during commencement.

The bachelor’s degrees are spread over 21 academic majors, with business administration having the most graduates with 12, followed by health and human performance with eleven. Both master’s degree recipients earned the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice.

The student graduation speaker was Cortez Huckleby, a recreation and sport management major from Cincinnati, Ohio. Zoe Rumley, a recreation and sport management major from Pleasant Garden, North Carolina, delivered the invocation. Raegan Metcalf, a senior music education major from Alexander, North Carolina, who will graduate in the spring, performed special music.

Mars Hill University holds two graduation ceremonies each year: one in May for graduates who complete their degrees in the spring semester, and one in December for graduates who complete degree requirements over the summer or fall terms.
