March 11, 2020
Update: 3/11/2020
MHU community:
We have been carefully following the developing situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We have had no reported cases or self-reports of exposure at this time. We will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our campus community. In response to developments in our region of the country, Mars Hill University will extend spring break for traditional students for another week, through March 22, with a return-to-class date currently set for Monday, March 23, 2020. Faculty and staff should report to work next week on their regular schedules.
An announcement regarding Adult & Graduate Studies programs will be forthcoming.
For students for whom this decision creates a hardship with regard to their living situation, please contact Shannon Coleman, Director of Housing and Residence Life, or Dave Rozeboom, VP for Student Life, at (828) 689-1253 for assistance.
In-season athletes will maintain their current schedules, subject to possible changes as warranted by the health situation or decisions by the SAC or opponent schools.
Taylor Fitness Center and Harrell Pool will be closed for at least the remainder of the extended spring break. We ask community groups that gather on our campus to find other accommodations until the threat passes.
Pittman Dining Hall will be open for on-campus, in-season student-athletes and for those who make direct arrangements based on hardship with Dr. Dave Rozeboom.
All non-essential travel of employees is canceled for the remainder of the spring semester.
Faculty and staff: For your safety and the safety of others, if you develop symptoms, it is requested that you contact your clinic/physician immediately and self-quarantine. We also ask that if you have recently traveled to CDC Level 3 countries (China, South Korea, Italy, and Iran) that you remain off-campus for 14 days after your arrival back to the U.S. even if you are symptom-free. If self-quarantine is necessary, faculty and staff must notify their supervisor as soon as possible and contact Jennie Matthews in HR at 828-689-1197 for coordination of leave time.
