Mars Hill University Alumna Named North Carolina Choral Teacher of the Year

Aleisa Baker, North Carolina’s 2021 High School Choral Section Teacher of the YearT.C. Roberson High School choral director Aleisa Baker was named the 2021 High School Choral Section Teacher of the Year by the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA). Baker is a 1996 graduate of Mars Hill University who majored in music education and vocal performance. She received the award Sunday at the NCMEA Conference in Winston-Salem.

In addition to being choral director, Baker also serves as the color guard instructor and visual designer for the T.C. Roberson Marching Band and directs the school-wide musical each spring. She is in her 25th year at Roberson, where she has grown the choral department from 32 students to over 225 each year. She serves as adjudicator for choral and marching band competitions in North Carolina and neighboring states, and teaches voice and piano lessons in her private studio. Baker maintains ties to Mars Hill, as well, serving as a zone coordinator for the annual J. Elwood Roberts – Mars Hill University Choral Festival. She is chair-elect of the High School Choral Section of the North Carolina Music Educators Association.
