The Council on Social Work Education has granted Mars Hill University’s social work program another eight years of accreditation. The CSWE’s accreditation department made the decision after reviewing the program’s compliance with educational policy and accreditation standards. MHU’s social work program has been continuously accredited since 1976.
Beth Vogler, MSW, Ph.D., director of the MHU social work program, says accreditation is a big deal for social work students. Students who graduate from an accredited program are prepared to immediately step into an employment or graduate school situation. She says Mars Hill’s program has a high rate of students who are accepted for employment immediately upon, or even sometimes before, graduation. Because of the rigorous standards needed to maintain accreditation, she says MHU graduates who choose to continue their education by pursuing a Master of Social Work often are more prepared for their studies than are students coming from non-accredited programs.
