MHU Esports Wins 11th Tournament Championship

four esports team members sit at gaming computers playing Call of DutyMars Hill University’s esports program continued its winning ways in the fall semester, as the Call of Duty team took an unbeaten run through the ECAC Campus Series Fall 2024 tournament, held at Concord University in West Virginia. The four-member team competed against six other teams in the Call of Duty division, going 9-0 series count and 21-0 map count across the weekend. Following a 3-0 win against Akron University in the Grand Finals, Mars Hill earned the first-place trophy, the $1,000 prize, and the eleventh tournament championship in program history.

Mars Hill’s Call of Duty team members were:

  • Luciano Belziti, a sophomore business administration major from Fairfax, Virginia
  • Jordan Hirigoyen, a junior computer science major from Fayetteville, North Carolina
  • Tomas Roda, a first-year business administration major from Fairfax, Virginia
  • Aaron Silva, a sophomore business administration major from Santiago, Chile

Mars Hill esports coach Jamie Nickell says the team received high praise from casters, fans, parents, and ECAC staff for not only their skill, but also their professionalism during the event.

The win brings the Mars Hill esports overall program record to 220 wins and 24 losses since its founding in 2019. In addition to Call of Duty, Mars Hill competes in League of Legends, Smash Bros, and VALORANT.

The ECAC is the Eastern College Athletic Conference, which hosts a comprehensive esports program that involves 160 schools fielding 1100 teams across 14 different esports games. ECAC Esports sponsors, conducts, and promotes competitions, leagues, tournaments, championships, and exhibitions.
