Page Lee, who taught religion at Mars Hill College for 34 years, died May 18, 2017. He was 87 years old. Dr. Lee and his wife, Anne, were married for 68 years. In addition to Anne, survivors include three daughters, a son, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Lee received his first undergraduate degree from Guilford College, a second bachelor’s degree and a master’s from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Southern Seminary. He also did further study at Oxford University and the University of Jerusalem. His began teaching at Mars Hill in 1961, and he and Anne (she worked in the college library) retired following the 1993-94 academic year.
In retirement, Dr. Lee remained active in the community and with the institution, attending homecoming and other campus events until health concerns made that difficult. Mars Hill University President Dan Lunsford expressed his appreciation for Dr. Lee’s “significant service to the campus and the community.”
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church, with visitation following the service. The family asks that those who would like to make memorial gifts in Dr. Lee’s honor do so through:
