If you’re lucky enough to live nearby, you already know the legendary beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you haven’t experienced “our neck of the woods,” get ready to be inspired on a daily basis. Just minutes from the vibrant city of Asheville, our hometown is surrounded by outdoor opportunities.  Within a short drive you can:

  • Snow ski or tube
  • Hike the Appalachian Trail
  • Stand on top of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi
  • Tour the impressive Biltmore Estate
  • Indulge at numerous foodie favorites in downtown Asheville

Education

At Mars Hill, we help each individual student develop the skills and knowledge to pursue their plans for the future. We believe that when you start from a higher perspective, you can go farther than you ever dreamed. You will learn from faculty who are as dedicated as they are accomplished. Your classroom experience will offer a broad liberal arts exposure, complete with experiential learning.

Graduate Programs

Mars Hill University Graduate Studies creates leaders in professional fields and communities.  Our programs accommodate both working professionals and recent college graduates.  We offer:

  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) The M.Ed. program is designed for licensed teachers seeking to expand professional knowledge and skills in curriculum and instruction at the elementary (K-6) level.
  • Master of Arts in Criminal Justice (M.A.C.J.)  Focuses on the enhancement of knowledge, communication, critical thinking skills, and ethical decision making.
  • Master of Management (M.M.)   4+1 degree. You can complete any major at MHU and add on a management degree in just one year.
  • Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Designed for students who currently hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in one or more of the following areas: Biology, History, English, Mathematics, Business, Theatre, or related fields and would like to seek teaching licensure.

Athletics

Mars Hill is part of the competitive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and a member of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). You don’t have to be a varsity athlete to get in the game. To complement ourNCAA DII teams, you will find sports like weightlifting,  Acro and Tumbling,  disc golf,  and esports. Don’t forget to check out our vibrant intramural teams! 

 

Career

The Cothran Center for Career Readiness serves to to help our students get ahead—even before graduation. Starting with your first classes on The Hill you will be identifying strengths, learning how to capitalize on those for valuable placements in internships and experiences, and practicing skills that eventually lead to job placement.

Student Dining

As a partner of MHU, Chartwells Dining Services is committed to offering quality food service programs to our students. The meal plan and BonusBucks can be used at all of our dining spaces on campus. We feature a variety of dining styles to meet your needs:

  • Pittman Dining Hall: our main dining room with a buffet style set-up. Food options include southern favorites, brick oven pizzas, fresh salad bar, soups and desserts. Vegetarian and vegan options available, and a dietary chef can work with you to meet individualized needs. 
  • The Lion’s Den: a sports bar themed diner, with your fast-food favorites of burgers, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks. Snacks and ice cream bar also available.
  • The Hilltop CafĂ©: Proudly serving Starbucks and on-the-go food items. Stop by and grab a bagel or coffee on the way to class!

Our Championship Tradition

MHU has 21 competitive teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, and is part of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Intramural sports offered include pool, ping pong, corn hole and basketball tournaments.  Weightlifting, Ultimate Frisbee, and tennis are offered as club sports.

Club Sports

A club sport is defined as a student organization designed to serve student interests in different sports at the non-NCAA level. These sports can be competitive or recreational and clubs compete with other clubs, organizations, colleges, and universities.
