Thom Milmoe Annual Scholarship

The Thom Milmoe Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a musician or would-be musician attending the Blue Ridge Old Time Music Week for the first time.  It is a full scholarship funded by Thom Milmoe’s surviving spouse, Alice Milmoe.

At age 42, Thom took the challenge of learning to play an instrument relatively late in life. Alice Milmoe celebrates her late husband’s memory by encouraging others to experience the joy that creating music can bring, “even if it’s not particularly good music.”

Scholarship Criteria:  A preference is given to beginning musicians, age 35 or older, who have financial need.

You may mail, fax, or email your application to the Blue Ridge Old Time Music program.

Application should include:

  1. Your name, address, daytime phone number, email address, and age.
  2.  Your instrument, desired class, how long you have played, and if you play other instruments. (Class listings at www.mhu.edu/conferences).
  3.  Your occupation and previous year’s adjusted gross income.
  4.  Please answer the following question in a half to full page: What do you hope to accomplish during the week and how will you use your new knowledge to foster the growth of old time music in your community?
